ABS Lite & Brake Lite On...'99 Ram Van
This is a '99 Ram Van with Rear ABS Brakes Only. I did a complete brake rebuild on the front and flushed the front and rear system with new ABS Fluid. I drove it for 300 miles with no lights and problems. Went out today and started it up and the ABS Lite and Brake Lite is on. The speedometer does not work until I get up to 18-20 m.p.h.
Someone told me it might be the Rear Speed Sensor (is this the right name for this part)mounted on the top of the rear axle. If so....can someone tell me step by step how to replace this item? It must go down inside the rear axle...Right?
All suggestions and input greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance~~~~~~~~~~~Ron

Go to Jack Miller Chrysler/Dodge. Punch in OEM parts. Put in your year and model. Go to ABS Brakes and click on Rear Wheel Sensor. I paid $34.14 plus $10.00 shipping and handling. My local dealer wanted $66.00 plus tax. They don't list a part number for this item.
http://allchryslerparts.com/ I ordered from them in the past with great success. Save 40/45% on all OEM!!!!!

Glad to hear it fixed your problem.....I'll know next week when I get the part. Florida Car Dealers are expensive and overpriced on everything. Thats's why I go online and buy parts. Have a great Eternity~~~~~~~~~Ron

Got the right part today.........Installed it and the lite went off and everything is OK. The problem I had with the part was...I ordered part for a '99 Dodge Ram Van which I own. When the part came the mounting bracket and electrical connection were different. Apparently....when my van was built, it was one of the last ones before the 2000 model and they stuck a 2000 rearend in my unit. If you check the parts book.....the sensor goes on 1997-1999 and than it has another part number for the 2000 model and up. They put a recall tag on my '99 part and sent me a 2000 model sensor. It was an exact match to my old part.
Looking under the hood of my van the spec sheet says.....DRA Chrysler 8.2 rearend with DMD Axle Ratio of 3.55. Can anyone tell from these numbers if my rearend is a 2000 model?
A good way to tell if your sensor is bad............The speedometer won't start working until 20 M.P.H. When you are slowing down...and it gets to 20 m.p.h. it immediately drops to "0".
Thanks for all your help~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Ron
