Default 1997 ram 2500 v6

The check engine light continues to blink. The van will bog down under acceleration and sometimes backfire a little bit.

A blinking engine light is a warning of a majorly rich exhaust. This is a warning that the engine should not be run until the problem is fixed because it will cause the catalytic converter to fail within minutes.

Although there are multiple possibilities for these two codes I believe these will end up being the pertinent ones.
42 Fuel pump relay control circuit
43 Cylinder misfire

What could be some of the probable causes for this?

Most likely your fuel pump circuit is shorting out intermittently, possibly due to the fuel pump motor starting to go bad. The cylinder misfire could be a direct result of a non-steady fuel supply. I think if you get the code 42 fixed first, then the code 43 will take care of itself.

Code 42 was fixed when i replaced Auto shutdown relay.
I only get 43 now. I am going to try changing the plugs and a new distributer cap and roter.

It runs and the check engine light only flashes after I have to accelerate hard. Then it misses and runs rough for a bit until the check engine light quits binking. then it occassionaly has a slight miss.

When you go for the new cap-n-rotor, don't be cheap. Those cheap parts have aluminum contacts. Instead ask for the better cap-n-rotor parts that are copper/brass contacts. This will save you headaches down the road too.

The Wells brand has a good copper/brass cap-n-rotor set that has worked well on my Ram Van/Wagon. They were only $3 more than the cheap aluminum types at AutoZone.

Peace!
