92 B250 van ignition problem
I have a 92 B250 van and I can't get spark. I have changed plugs, plug wires, rotor, dist. cap, pickup coil, coil, start/run relay, ignition switch, and pcm. I still get no spark. It started out as intermittent, and now has progressed to constant. To complete the problem, it now will not crank. Starter tested ok. can anybody help?

RE: 92 B250 van ignition problem
For the no crank problem, there's an additional relay on the firewall that controls the starter. Perhaps that relay has gone bad.
When you tested the starter, did you test the motor directly or did you run power through the Bendix solenoid on it so that it was tested okay as well? Do you have 12 volts at the starter off of the large red wire, if so, do you get 12 volts on the little wire while turning the key to the start position? For the ignition problem, I see all of the parts you replaced but you didn't mention if you've checked for 12 volt power at the coil? Do you get spark off of the coil wire but not at the plugs, or is there no spark even directly off the coil? |
RE: 92 B250 van ignition problem
It doesnt get spark to or at the coil. we did run a jumper from the ignition to the pick up coil wireand it ran for a few minuets. now i dont even get crank. not sure if i messed something else up.

Check the #7 (30 amp) maxi-fuse under the hood and see if it's blown. This is the fuse that powers the ignition and starter circuit.

RE: 92 B250 van ignition problem
Icant find the#7 (30 amp) maxi-fuse but ididfind a 20 amp just over the battery and a bunch of fusible links in the middel.
anny idas whare the30 amp isunder the hood? |
RE: 92 B250 van ignition problem
by the way thares a fuse box next to the glove box and fuse no. 7 is 30 amps and is fine.is this the one your talking about?

RE: 92 B250 van ignition problem
Starting in 92 the fusible links were replaced with a fuse box under the hood near the battery. Your's doesn't have that?
If not you'll have to check the fusible links. There's 3 for the ignition switch one is a #12 orange and the other 2 are #20 orange ones. While you're there, also inspect the #22 white one since that powers the ASD relay. If the ASD relay isn't working or getting power the ignition will not fire. |
RE: 92 B250 van ignition problem
Although none of the fusible links are as you described there all fine so ware is the ASD and do you have a picture because it has a lot or relays?
|
RE: 92 B250 van ignition problem
Usually there are a pair of relays together on the firewall. One is for the starter and the other is the ASD.
