New to the forum. Is dextron OK for this model year with 3 speed trans?

Manual tranny - Dextron II or Mercon auto tranny fluid. (Yes, auto tranny fluid in a manual tranny.)
Auto Tranny - ATF +3 or Type 7176 auto tranny fluid.

Some do some don't, some carry it but are out of it frequently. The only way to know for sure is to call them or just stop by.

 

No luck with 7176 at the local dealer or parts store. Likewise with +3. Dealer/parts store,says +4 will work. Is that ture?

 

Yes, +4 supersedes +3.

 

Thanks. Fluid changed to ATF +4 synthetic. 160,000 and shifting smooth.

I've been told in the past that the Dextron III is not the same as ATF+3 for Chrysler vehicles and to avoid using it at all costs. IF you read the Dextron III claims, it says recommended, but not aprroved per Chrysler specifications.

Even Castrol who is in the automotive oil business spells out that Dexron III and AFT+3 are different critters.


Castrol is "Certified" ATF+3 and ATF+4 for chrysler vehicles.
