Will not idle, intermittent

RE: Will not idle, intermittent
I assumethe problem wasn't there before you replaced the tensioner? If that's the case, you probably knocked off, or left off, a wire connector or vacuum line. There is a vacuum line on the passenger side that feeds the climate controls. It's right behind the alternator and connects to the side of the intake manifold.

Hi
Thanks for reply. yes.problems occurred after tensioner replaced.
My first indicator of trouble 1. engine turned over slowly wouldn't start. 2 tried boost battery, started ok, wouldn't idle. 3. noted the clock timewasn't correct, off by hours like battery dead. 4.engine not ran in 5-7 days. 5. battery wasn't dead since it started engine 5 -10 mins later. ????????????? any help appreciated

RE: Will not idle, intermittent
davedawe,
From what you've described it sounds like your battery is no good. After sitting for 5-7 days the battery should still have plenty of power to spin the engine. The fact that it had enough power 10 minutes later makes no difference because a bad battery will hold power for short periods of time, just not long ones.
A dead battery will also explain poor idling because the PCM learns how to idle the engine over time. When power is lost at the PCM, so is this learned idle information. Replace the battery and run the van for a few days and I'm sure the problem will clear up on it's own.

What, tying them together all the time instead of just after it's been started?

Would this eliminate battery problem?

Tackle the battery problem first and fore most. It's part of the overall problem. Next, you'll need to clean the IAC if the idle problem still persists. Check out this link here to do the easy job. ... https://dodgeforum.com/m_525409/tm.htm
At times, the TPS can cause idle issues if the internal coil-spring (constant-force-spring) potentiometer is messed up. There's a quick fix found here ... https://dodgeforum.com/m_1060721/mpa...tm.htm#1077754
Either the CRC Lectra-Motive or CRC QD Electronics Cleaner will work with either of these DIY repairs and maintenance procesdures.
But, look at the battery first and the battery cables. [&:]

Idle air control?
Mine did the same thing (3.9 v6 1993 B250). Van was Grandma's before she passed away, and the PCM was replaced twice, once at her expense, over the "won't idle every once in a while" thing. I inherited the van, after 6 months of idle most the time, but won't sometimes, I bought a Haynes manual. Replaced the IAC, never happened again.
