Default 2500 Van Starting Problems

Hi all, I would like some possible suggestions and possible answers to my problem before I begin taking the van apart. When starting from cold, the van will start okay, but will stop straight away unless I have my foot on the throttle. As soon as I take my foot off the throttle, it will stop again. If I start the van, keep my foot on the throttle for 30 seconds or so and release, the van will continue to idle. Once it has been idling for some time, I can reverse the van out of the drive, but when it is placed into drive mode, it stalls. The van will start straight after, then we are on our way with no problems. The van runs okay and does not stall at any other time, only when starting from cold. Any suggestions will be welcome. Many thanks.

Hi, and thanks for your reply.

The year is 1997, The engine is a 5.2L and the fuel system is multi-port fuel injection. Thanks

It sounds like your IAC could be dirty. Here a link to a rather descriptive way to clean it by stev.

Thanks for the advice, I will inspect it and give it a clean.

If the problem still persists, do you think it could be the EGR valve
or the PCV valve?

You don't have an EGR valve. So clean the IAC, inspect the PCV and we can take it from there.
