Default In Need of a transmission for a 2000 1500 Ram Van

I juat got off the phone with a guy from Murrays Auto parts & he gave me quote of $1902 + $650 core! the best deal I have found on ebay so far is $850 + $300 core and $300 shipping (plus the cost to return the core).

WTF is up with that!!! (rhetoric statement, not an actual question)

20 years agoI could go to the junk yard and pick up transmissions for a Dodge Tradesman for around $150, whatever happened tp those days? Of course beck then I did it so often, I could r&r one of those trannies in under an hour. Now it takes that long just to remove the engine cover safely.

Needless to say, I do need to replace my transmission quickly, but still affordably, does anyone have any tips on where to get the best deals on a transmission these days? I dont mind getting this one rebuilt if it is going to save several hundred $$$, I can havethis one droppedin an hour, and deliver it. So if anyone somewhat locally (Macomb County Michigan) knows of someone that does a good job with rebuilds, and is familiar with Chrysler trannies, PLEASE let me know.

Have you considered buying a low mileage one from a junkyard? They usually go for around $500 give or take.

Actually, yeah I have thought about it, & it's most likely what I am going to end up doing, but if I can get mine rebuilt for relatively close to that price, then at least I should get some sort of assurance with it. Junk yards I have talked to will only give 30 days, and the only junk yard close to my home doesn't have any at the moment either. Like I said, I miss the days when I could go pick one up for $150 lol.

$150? Is that around the same time that a loaf of bread was a nickel? [sm=smarty.gif]

LOL, I'm not that old! In the late 70's & early 80's I did a lot of work for my dad as a teenager. Tradesman Vans were his thing. There were a few times we raced to see who could r&r a trans quicker. My dads only 14yrs older then me so it wasn't like he was an old guy, but I still beat him every time(it mostly had to do with size difference lol).

*bread was around $.50 for the butter top, and gas was between $.80 &$1 a gallon*

Still hoping someone local knows of a good mechanic with strong Chrysler transmission knowlegde, to get mine rebuilt.

Crescent Transmissions in Hawaiian Gardens, CAdid mine for 1895.00 I think was and they will ship. I use this shop because they won't fix a transmission they will only rebuild with the highest quality parts available. The fact they wont fix tell's me they are 100% honest and don't want a customer coming back with a problem. I plan on keeping my 94 B-150 for many many years. My last transmission from the lasted well over 350K miles many towing for my 68 360 A100. When I gave the van away after 12 years of use the fluid was still pink as a babys bottom shifted as crisp as they day I picked up, and the only issues it had were leaking seals from age.
