i just took the intake manifold off of my 318.
in the center, on the underside, directly under
where the carb sits is a sheet metal type cover with
two oddly placed studs, which i thought were screws...
upon closer inspection these are neither screws nor bolts
they look like friggin' mushroomed rivets!
I can tell there is a lot of gunk under there from feeling
through one of the ports. I really need to clean this out,
how the hell do you get under this cover?? HELP!!

Just drop the intake into a large tub of water and TSP and let it soak for a few days. It should remove all the carbon without having to remove the plate.
