1997 ram B2500 van
Alloro, OK if that is the problem. Does the ground wire run back to the box? Or does it have a ground near the tank that i don't see. If this is the case i hope it is then i can repair this ground.
Mobile, There are 4 wires to the pump assy. I looked at the one i took out and 2 wires to the pump and the other 2 to the sender. I do not get no pump action at all but sender works fine. Done the relay shuffle and no good. What could keep the pump from working when i test at connector at pump and get 2-3 seconds of 12 volt then goes off. Could it be a bad module? Will look back shortly going out to try a search of wire grounds.
According to my Mitchell on Demand 5.8 the tank ground goes to the rear of the van on right side. Probably near the bumper but on the van body. It will have the ground wire from the right side tail lamps there as well. Might look near where the light wires come through the body at that area.
Keep checking back I am still looking up some info.

The 2 seconds of 12 volts is normal. The pump will not stay running untill the engine is started and running. The pump is controled by the PCM. So far we have establieshed that the PCM is sending power to the relay and from there to the pump. What we need to find is does it have enough amps in the wire or is the ground weak and stoping the power from continuing. Do you have a 12 volt test light? If so try to ground the light to the body and see if it lights for the 2 seconds. If it does then you should have enough amps in the wire to run the pump motor and need to fix or replace the ground wire.
OK Mobile, Now it sounds like this could be it. Now your going to make me go out and try to see this right after i took my shower. LOL I will let you know the outcome. thanks for all.
Mobile, I went back out to look for ground. Found it just above floor pan inside rear door. Also found another connector there too. Not in to good of shape. Mosqitos are eating me up so will have to get it in the day. Hope this is the final thing (knock on wood). Will tell outcome later. Thanx for looking up that info.
Mobile, Was thinking while in bed, what else could be the cause of this no pump if the ground is not the issue? Is it possible to e-mail a wire diagram of the pump cicuit. If so my e-mail at work is tmellin@kirksauto.com. This is not auto related old name different work. Do hydraulics. Thanx.
Mobile, Is it possible to give me the pin outs for the connector that leads to the tail lights that might include the ground for the pump. My thought all along was the ground ran back to the front of the van. Will chack back. Thanx.
I don't have the pin outputs for that connector off hand, will take a little while to trace out. I can try tomorrowor Friday. I had a long day and have to get up really early in the morning for a long trip. I wish I could do a screen capture and email but I do not have the software to do that right now. Can't find any free ware that will do as I wish.
The easiest way to fix this ground is run a new wire to the frame from the pump ground wire. If your right tail lights are not bright on that side I would put a new body ground to frame where the ground is there inside behind the door and run a new wire to the frame. Running new ground wires to the frame will solve all ground problems for that area.
Hope this helps you.
