Step-by-step, How to clean the IAC ...

https://dodgeforum.com/m_525409/tm.htm

You had mentioned the dealer replacing the idle chip in your first posting. I wonder if they had replaced the IAC. However, that's only 1/2 the fix!!! A new IAC is totally clean, BUT ... the port it plugs into IS NOT, neither is the SLOT under the port hole in the TB casting. Get a few ear swabs, carb/TB cleaner and go to town on this once you review the link.

Your van is a 1998, and if the IAC port and slot have not been cleaned at least once in two years or about 30~40k, then this problem gets worse.

mentioned to clean the IAC to the dodge service manager during last visit. it seemed the suggestion went right over his head. i'll make sure they clean it this time. their repairs had a one year warranty. it didn't even last two months!

van died again when i was out christmas shopping. it was cold out.

i'm about done with it all, i want a new van for christmas. hehehehe

Just spoke with the same manager again. He said when he hooked up the computer to check everything the IAC was an option but the computer didn’t recognize that as a problem. Only thing that raised a flag was the crank sensor. And as I said before they already changed that.

ORIGINAL: blondieblue227

Only difference this time is I notice after the cut off occurs and I place it in park it rolls by itself a few inches. Like the brakes aren’t working? Also, all my needles moved when it cut off, showing I had no gas, oil etc.

This right here tells you that it an electrical loss of power problem. Could be a bad ignition switch, power relay, battery connection, or a bad connection/connector along your power path. The weak link that's causing the sudden loss of electrical power might also be what's triggering the 500 jump starts counter.

just wanted to say it's happening again.

may i might add that there's a certain sound it makes before it cuts off. more of a wineing tone.

not really looking for answers anymore, just more of a report to help others.
