Default Steering play

1999 ram,van,3500,Roadtrek RV190V,81,000 miles
2" play in steering, highway or stopped, engine running
Is this caused by wear?
Any adjustment to reduce play?
Thanks

Before making any adjustments to the steering box, you first need to inspect all front end components for wear and replace any worn components found.

I had this problem. I crawled underneath the Van and shook everything that I could get a hold of on the front suspension. There should be no play in your Idler arms. These wear out over time and need to be replaced. My van is a 1998 and it has two idler arms. The passenger side one was shot and the steering was so loose with play that it was almost scary to drive on side roads. I replaced it and the steering is near perfect now.
