1995 dodge b2500 wont stay running when hot
I understand that this is either a Federal law or soon will be. The reason is so the Emission Testing Centers will know if the vehicle can pass the emissions test or not. By clearing the OBD-II codes it resets the computers self monitoring system and it has to retest all the emission sensors to be sure that they are performing correctly. My code scanner shows me whether the PCM is ready or not and which sensors it is still needing to pass the tests. Most times just after reseting the PCM the owner will have to drive two to five days of normal driving to get all the sensors emission test ready.
I replaced the coil and it still stalls. only a few times after it gets warm.It surges sometimes and runs great other times. looks like i am going to place one piece at a time until fixed.$3000 times hours of labor and parts. should have bought a new van.Throttle body and ecm is next on the list???? need some ideas......Help required...LOL.....Thanks
Thanks for your time Alloro, this thing is driven me crazy.Yes and no,it runs great while in drive and idle for sometime. back and forth to work. 32 miles(one way).when i get home i put it park let it sit for a few minutes then it will not idle nor will it go in gear with out stalling.if i rev up engine to 3000 and run for a few seconds it clears up and runs great.(black smoke come out exhuast.not a lot) then same thing happens after a 2 miles down the road. just won't idle sometimes.rpms will not stay the same at idle, however if i touch the throttle so little it runs great.it just loads up for some reason.thinking the ecm or the TB is bad.also sound like the ecm does not reset it self. could this happen? also this thing run greats when cold.(new Jersey) it will idle all day until you drive it,until you put it in gear.you can hear that it is drops rpms then wants to go. Yes I thought about the TCC sensor???

I would thank you all for your help. However it was all wrong but very helpful. The problem was very easy and you will never know what it was???? IT WAS THE SENDING UNIT FOR THE TEMP SENSOR TO THE ECM. So easy however so far off base,$20 fix after spending 300 in other sensors.in which i took back all of them.lol... the temp sensor was sending wrong engine temp to the ecm,in whinch was flooding out the engine.learn something new everyday.Thank you all once again......
Very interesting. On my van when I bought it the PCM temp sensor harness was disconnected. With it not hooked up the engine kept a high idle, about 1,000 RPM's, and did run richer for the PCM kept thinking that the engine coolant was cold. Did not have any issues with it trying to stall.
In your first post you said you changed a "heat sensor", what sensor did you replace that did not help the problem?
