Does this sound correct, or is there something else that I need to take into account here?
My advice in situations like this is to tell people to contact the seller. They might be able to tell you the reason for the different spring specs. But more importantly, if you buy based on their supplied information, you will have a much easier time exchanging them if something ends up not being correct.

Thanks Alloro, I have indeed asked them for their advise, and it was then that they came back to me and said that I shouldn't rely on the original wire size being equivalent to the replacement parts, as manufacturing differences might mean different wire sizes give an equivalent ride, but with no suggestion as to which of the 3 type is correct!

I have responded back to them with the part numbers from the existing springs, and hopefully they will be able to advise the correct replacements. Incidentally, if anyone here has access to a part number cross reference, here are the codes on the labels on my springs, googling has given me no answers:

Spring 1:
215
71765
52039215

Spring 2:
214
71765
52039214

I also found a thread here: http://www.*********.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252371 which refers to the 3 different wire sizes of spring, but they are talking about B150 vans, which I guess perhaps use a lighter duty spring than my B2500 (heavy) conversion van.

Edit: For some reason that url is censored, but it is 'the other' dodge place where people like to 'talk' about them.

Thanks,
Ben

Arghh!!
Rock Auto have replied with :

We cannot cross reference to the Chrysler part number. However, to order the Moog part, please order according to the year, make, and model, and engine displacement of the vehicle, and then according to the specific specifications listed in the part description. We do list Moog springs for the van, and there are details in the part description concerning such matters as GVW rating, etc.

So I'm not getting much help from them! Their site lists 3 possible springs for a B2500 van. I am just hoping some one on here knows which is the correct spring for my van! I don't really understand why they can't suggest a suitable replacement for my existing chrysler part number, I think I will have to just get the heavy duty version which matches my spring wire diameter of 7/8" unless anyone here knows any different?!!

Thanks,
Ben

I was reading some threads on the 2nd gen Ram truck forum where people have requested build sheets for their Rams from Chrysler. So I sent off an email in the hope it would help me identify the springs I need.
To my surprise I got a reply within about 1/2 hour with the info, that's top service! I'll paste it here just for fun:

So, it appears that heavy duty suspension and shocks are specified, which confirms what I thought based on the spring wire diameter, the part description in RockAuto's listings, and the GVWR label that states 6800lbs. So, Moog 7272 it is then!
