Question speed sensor help

Hi guys. I was browsing through parts at Rockauto.com when I came across 3 different speed sensors for my 1990 B250. I'm trying to figure out if the "transmission speed sensor" relates to the transmission communicating with the ECM to engage OD. There was also an ABS wheel speed sensor and right front speed sensor listed. Does any one know about the transmission speed sensor and the real function of it? Thx

It counts pulses to run the speedometer and odometer.

I don't know how different your '90 is than my '89, but on mine the only speed sensor is on the speedo cable itself. It is located about 16 inches behind the instrument cluster, inside the engine compartment.

I currently have issues with mine. Sometimes it gets stuck, the contacts don't open and close with the spinning magnet. It does not light the CEL but it does store a code 15. The code disappears once the contacts warm up enough and unstick or I flick it with my finger then drive.

When the contacts do stick, I do not have overdrive.

If your not getting a code 15, I'd say with a reasonable amount of confidence, the VSS is not the cause of your OD issue.

Even if you have a cable for the speedo, you still have a speed sensor. You should have two wires going into the cable housing and a cable.
