Default 1989 B-250 fuel delivery problems

Hello everyone, i have an 89 b-250 conversion van with the 5.2l. Recently i have been having some fuel delivery issues in the low end rpms. The van will start fine, but has a rough idle. and once it is put into drive it will not accelerate properly until it reaches about 3500-4000 rpms. It will go about 5mph until it reaches 3500-4000 with half and full throttle, once it reaches around that rpm the throttle engages and throws me back in my seat, and takes off running fine. but if the engine up shifts and the rpms drop it starts to bog again. I have changed the spark plugs and the wires, i changed the inline fuel filter. I reset the in-tank fuel pump by unpluging it and pluging it back in, and i have checked the cat and muffler for blockage. it also has a new air filter in it. The check engine light is on but it has been on for the past 3 years of owning the van, and this problem started about a week ago. I also looked for a engine diagnostic port but was unable to find it. I have a code reader but it is for OBD-2 only and im not sure if the 89 is OBD-2 or not. any suggestions would be greatful thanks.

OBD-II started in 1996 so your's is OBD-I. It sounds like you could have a bad TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). I'd really like to know what the code is that has the CEL turned on.

You can check the codes by doing the key dance. Turn the ignition to on, not start, and off 2 times, then turn it to on and leave it on. The Check engine light will go out and then start flashing. 3 flashes a pause and then 5 flashed indicates a code 35.

Code 12 is usually present indicating the battery has been disconnected within the last 50 key starts.

Code 55 means end of codes.

Do the above procedure and perhaps we can better help you.

Try again, there is no code 36 so you must've counted wrong or missed a pause or two.
