Default Going insane!!! Heeeeelp!!!

Someone PLEASE help me find the correct speedometer cable for my 1988 B150. The one that the books list (Parks Auto, Autozone, O'Reilly) is the WRONG cable. The fittings at each end are the wrong size. PLEASE HELP!

You didn't supply dimension that you need, if you have cruise control, or engine size, so I had to do a little guessing. Check out the 4th down on this page and see if the dimensions fit yours.

Thank you. That is the cable I keep getting shipped to me but the dimensions of the end fittings are reversed. The external threaded end should be the smaller 5/8 diameter and the nut end that screws into tranny should be the 7/8 size. Am I missing something here? Did someone before me do something funky with the whole speedo set-up? It seems pretty stock. Even the vss which I ordered was the correct one. So the weird thing is, if the vss is correct in the books and it has a 5/8 diameter nut on it, how could the cable that the books call for have a 7/8 size thread? I know the correct cable exists because I took it off myself!

Do you have cruise control?
What VSS? Where is it located?

We went over his speedo and VSS a couple months ago.
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-r...-question.html
I remember because his speedo cable goes into his cruise control after the vss, then from the cruise to the speedometer in the dash. My '89 goes from tranny to VSS to dash speedo avoiding the CC altogether.

Could you use the new speedo cable in the old sheathing?

Wish I could help more

I threw away the old cable not thinking that it would become such an ordeal. yes, the cable goes from tranny to vss to cruise to speedo. I got the new vss and it connects fine to the cruise with the old cable that comes off the cruise. The other side of the vss, the side going to tranny is a free-spinning nut that would screw onto one end of the long cable going to the tranny. That threaded part of the supposed "correct" cable is made for a 7/8 nut. The nut on the vss is a 5/8. I just don't understand how they would mismanufacture a part like that. And this really sucks because I'm driving for months now with no speedo and no overdrive. If anyone has any suggestions whatsoever I would greatly appreciate it.

Ahh okay then. What's needed is the 3rd cable in the list, not the 4th. The 4th cable goes directly from the tranny to the speedo. The 3rd cable goes from the tranny to the VSS.

(He threw out the original cable.)

Correction! The vss has 3/4" nut on it.
