Default steering box leaking

88 b250 steering box leaking,it's coming from the seal where the steering column connects to the steering box.Does anyone know how to replace the seal? Does it have to be done with a special tool,or can I go to Napa, pick it up and do it myself? Thank you

They sell rebuild kits for the steering gears at Rockauto. You need to remove the gear to be able to do it.

Just replace the gear with a remanufactured one It's less work. The one person I know of to replace the seals said it was not worth the effort, and leaked again.

I used Lucas Power steering stop leak. It allowed me a couple more years before I had to replace the leaking gear.

Take a turkey baster and remove as much fluid from the PS pump, and replace with Lucas, and you might not have to replace it for a long while.
