Hello all. Got a P1899 code. My 96 b1500 5.2 will start in Reverse and Drive. I am assuming it's the park/neutral safety switch. So I am
gonna go test it now. Plus my cruise control stopped working.
Anyone seen this before?

I went by the haynes manual and checked the shift cable for proper adj. and it was correct. I then pulled the 3 prong plug (NSS) and tested
the switch. Reverse was right but I could not get continuity between center pin and case in park or reverse. So I pulled the switch from tranny.
The fingers were centered in the hole where the switch mounts so I tested the switch itself and there was continuity. I tested the finger inside
the switch hole for continuity and it's good. So I think the finger inside the hole is not contacting the switch pin. I guess I will go get a new
switch and see what happens.

Good luck, that's no doubt the problem. Let us know how you make out. I'm curious to know if this affects your cruise control. Tracka96

So I went and bought a new park/neutral switch from advance auto for 12$. Put it in. Put the quart of fluid back in the tranny that drained out. Hooked the battery back up. And the test drive.... No check engine light and my cruise control worked. hallelujah

Well it worked fine yesterday after the switch replacement. Today, it started over. I have a feeling the fingers are worn inside the tranny that makes contact with the switch. Soon I will tighten the switch more to see if that helps make a better contact.
