No BS and no bragging, but I had a 73 340 Duster, well two actually, the first was an automatic and the second was a manual 4 speed. One time I was visiting a friend over in New Jersey and his buddys were ranking on the fact that I had a Mopar when Chevys were supposed to be the car to have.

Anyway, long story short, someone had to come by and scrape their jaws off the pavement after they watched me lay rubber in all 4 gears. I'm not talking chirps, I mean real wheel spin. I had G50-15Rs on the back with traction bars, so grip wasn't an issue, there was just so much power from those engines that needed someplace to go. LOL

IMO, the one thing that kept the 360 from becoming great is that it's an externally balanced engine. I once calculated that if you stroked the crank journals and oversize the pistons, you could get 383 CI out of a 360 small block. That's makes for a seriously good weight to HP ratio.

One time when building a 360 (30 years ago) I was faced with the dilemma of the engine shop telling me that they couldn't spin balance the crank for me due to the external balancing issue. I came up with the idea to weld a chunk of metal onto the flex-plate and use a 340 high stall torque converter since it doesn't have a counterweight on it. With the flex-plate bolted to the crank, they were able to balance it. They in turn used that idea many times over. Nowadays you can buy the flex-plate with a counterweight on it. Go Figure!

Check out Geno's TSB for the Ram Trucks and Vans ...

http://dodgeram.info/tsb/0_old_ix.htm

And why settle on a mere 360/5.9L in a Duster. Go all out with a 440/7.2L.
