Default oil pan removal

Hi everyone!
My brother in law has a 2000 Ram Van that I believe has tossed a rod bearing.
He said the oil pressure gauge has been dropping to 0 lbs intermittently and I have witnessed this at idle speed. Then it will pop right back up again.
However as stated before I can hear some clunking from the oil pan.
I am a mechanic by trade (forklift technician) but I have never pulled a pan on one of these 00 Ram vans.
Is it possible to raise the engine up enough to get the pan out? Or does the trans have to come out to get enough clearance?
Thanks.
Chris

Remove the dog house and the fan shroud, that you can get more room to remove the pan.

It's not a rod bearing. If it were, the pressure would not come back up. Either there is an issue with the oil pick-up tube in the pan, or with the oil pump.

Man that would be great if I didn't have 2 mess with the rods.
I was also wondering about the oil pump drive gear possibly failing and causing the noise and low pressure.
