Huh. Your van must be a late '92 - all the sites I looked at said that gear is used '90-'92.

Hope you get lucky in the junkyard!

Today is my lucky day...I went to the junkyard to find a speedometer and there is was. There was a '92 1 ton with a handicapped conversion just sitting there. I pulled the speedometer and it looked a little different but appeared it would work. I figured I could always go back and get the whole instrument cluster if I needed to. Anyway I just put it in and went for a test drive and it works great. The odometer works now also. So Alloro you were right, the problem was the speedometer. Thanks!! The bonus is the junkyard only charged me $5.00 for the speedometer!!

Only one problem with this repair, my van now shows 250,000 miles...oh well.

Thanks,

Geoff

You can disassemble the odometer and change that if you want. If you don't, I would definitely document the mileage of the one that came out, the one that went in, and the date of the swap. Keep the information with the junkyard receipt for the speedometer.

I just thought I post here and say the 20 tooth gear was also broken on my 1990 B250. I am ordering it now from the link above. $28 is hard to swallow for such a small plastic gear, but I want the odometer to start working again because I don't really trust the fuel gauge in this van haha.

If you think that's expensive, try a speeding ticket.

My speedo works fine, it's the odometer that doesn't :-)

Ooooh, I thought you were talking about the speedo gear down on the tranny.

I'm sorry for the confusion, I was referring to the odometer gear inside the instrument cluster.

I got the gear and the install went smoothly. But I must have forgot to connect something back up when reinstalling the cluster because now the speedo, gear indicator, odometer; nothing works. When before the only issue was the odometer not working. The gear was definitely stripped so I know that was the issue with the odo. So now I just hope I forgot to plug something in and didn't just brick the whole cluster . I will take the dash back apart tomorrow to see if I can diagnose what I did

It was the little green ground strap. Everything works but the odometer again. Guess I wasted $28 on that gear. Mine was stripped but something else must be wrong for the odometer/trip to be the only thing not working. I think I will start looking for a salvage one.
