'84 B250: Transmission slippage
Hey Y'All ! What would cause the 747 tranny to slip while accelerating from between speeds of 30-40 mph only ? (I've changed the fluid & filter fairly regularly). Granted I've got about 385K mi. on the rig and a general rebuild is most likely due, but I'd like to put that off 'till it's really necessary. Thanx
If that does fix it then I would highly recommend getting ready to do another fluid/filter change and tighten the low/reverse band as well.
385K, wow, that as of right now is the only van I have seen/read about that has 21K more miles than mine. How long have you owned it? I bought mine with 330K 3 1/2 years ago.

Thanx guys .... I went to ck. my odometer & it's only 382.7K (!). Anyway, I got mine in the spring of '97 with about 78K on it & it's been my constant companion toolin' around town and cruisin' long trips. It was previously owned by a Jeep/Mopar mechanic. I've had very few problems with it.
Oh also, last fluid/filter change I added some of that Lucas Trans. stuff upon hearing good things about it. The company recommends that you add it every fluid change (not surprisingly!). Is that really advisable ? Doesn't it do it's thing adequately the first time ?
I've read that lucas tranny fix has helped some transmissions which were on their last legs, but I certainly would not use a little every pan drop.
It is basically very thick goo which changes the fluid's viscosity.
LUBEGARD RED is a well respected transmission additive. I think Lubegard is one of the few additives companies that are not just snake oil salesman with an excellent marketing team, and budget.

No I did mean it the way I wrote it. Reason is if the intermediate band is loose then IMO the low/reverse band may be close behind in getting ready to slip. I am the type that does not mind fixing a current non existent problem instead of waiting for it to happen.
