Default Help---Ram 1500 van

Seems that I have a bit of a no spark issue. Quick catch-up van died in parking lot of grocery store. Tried cranking it a few times no luck- it did backfire on me 2 times. Towed home- from there thought it was the fuel pump- replaced that. It started and ran for several min. Shut it down and won't restart. Since that time have replaced the rotor- pick-up coil and crank position sensor- also the ignition coil. Still not spark. When I put a meter on the positive side of the coil connection I am only reading 2-4 volts. Did get a PEM from junk yard and swaped mine out. Still no luck. When I check the ASR I get 12V on one of the terminals but only read 4V on the other. Any suggestions------

What year and what engine does this van have?

Have you checked/replaced the ASD (Auto Shut Down) relay? If pre 96 check the fuse-able links behind the brake booster as well. Look for burnt an/or lose wires in each link. If badly burnt you will see otherwise pull on each end of the link and see if it stretches or pulls apart. If either then replace that link.

Ok then your van is like mine, it does not have fuse-able links. Instead it has high amp fuses in the PDC (Power Distribution Center) along with the relays. Try swapping the starter or ac relay with the ASD relay. If that does not allow the van to start then pull the ASD relay and check Pin 30 for 12 volt power, if there is power then make a jumper wire with blade ends to connect pin 30 to pin 87 and see if the van will start.

I did check the PCM and it was ok. I checked the pins on the relay-- I was getting 12V on the back pin and only 4v on the front pin-- so I did a jumper from the positive post to the pin and the van started and ran- I believe that it may be in the ignition switch-- Any ideas

Very possible. Hard to say without knowing the pin numbers your testing. The relay will have a diagram. If indeed only 4 volts from the switch then I would look into replacing it. Especially if it was causing other electronic to act up now or with in the last few weeks.

You man want to reseat, or a least jiggle a little bit, that big connector on the firewall by the brake booster, first. You may just have bad connection.
