OK, I see. BTW no need to apologize, we're just talking. If this is also the flow pattern of my 3.9 then I'll be at least riveting a square piece of screen over the hole in the air cleaner or installing an in-line filter in the hose like yours.

I never really understood why the Breather did not pull filtered air instead of unfiltered air from the cleaner case.

I like the 'idea of another filter.

I have read about plenty of stock air filters which get oil soaked from this line, indicating an improperly operating PCV system, or just excessive blowby, or both.

I have not had this issue, and do think a better air filter replacing the CCV breather cap is a good idea as long as it is checked frequently and does not get clogged.

Which is probably why it is engineered as it is. For minimal maintenance.'

Why not just use a Ford crankcase breather filter in the air filter housing ahead of the stock one? I will try this, it should fit.
