Speaker Help...
Hello all,
I decided to get a new radio deck so I can play cd's connect to Ipod wirelessly etc. Before the rear passenger speaker, driver door woofer and passenger dash tweeter wouldn't work. I tested the right rear and the speaker itself works. After replacing the radio deck, I have the same problem... I found a speaker thread where everyone was saying it was a problem with the head unit. But as I said I just replaced it. Ideas? Wiring? Likely problem spots?
Thanks, Bill

All of the wiring is weak in these vans. I am singularly unimpressed after working on Fords where I've simply never seen these problems. Undersized wires and poor connectors. At each speaker location you can remove and test the speaker, as you have already done in the right rear. Noting the wire colors you can trace them back if you wish or just go ahead and rewire them (which is what I did).
On a 2000 Ram 1500 the color code is:
dark green left front +
brown/red left front -
violet right front +
dk blue/red right front -
light green/red left front (door)+
light green/dark green left door -
light blue/red right front (door)+
light blue/black right door -
dk green/yellow left rear +
brown/lt blue left rear -
dark blue/white right rear +
dark blue/orange right rear -

They couldn't make it simple could they? I have a 2000 3500 and the right rear were white with black and white with red so apparently they are different. -_- Ok, well I guess I know what I'm doing on Sunday...
Thanks.
Thanks.
Hmm, strange. But I believe it
It isn't very hard to rewire all of these speakers but it is time consuming.
The rear speaker wiring runs through the roof, then down to a point just behind the drivers seat. The wiring then runs under the drivers seat on the floor and comes up either in the drivers kick panel or under the dash. The door speaker wiring for the left door can be accessed just above the drivers kick panel. The right door speaker wiring can be accessed inside the dash after pulling off that access panel at the end.
I have a 2000 Ram 1500 conversion van that came with six speakers and the midline radio/cd/cassette (joystick fader). My original wiring matches this code that I copied for you from my Dodge factory manual. I have rewired the entire system now ( my amplifiers put out far too much power to push through tiny 20 guage wire! ) and the only thing stock remaining are the wires to the 3.5" dash speakers.

Well, good and bad news... The passenger dash speaker is blown, it's not a wiring issue. Now I don't have to track down wires but any idea where I can find replacements? Besides that I haven't checked the driver's side door yet but I'll probably swap it out with the rear speaker that works to test if it's wiring. Hopefully it's a blown speaker as I can get a new set of 6 x 9's at my local Walmart.
Anyway, I guess I'll have to try and track down the rear wiring. Looks like I'm taking off more panels. -_- You'd think a church van would be in better condition... haha.
Thanks.

Any 3.5" speaker will fit in the dash (assuming the magnet isn't too big of course). I installed a pair these in my dash and they sound pretty good @20 - 30 watts RMS.
