Fuel Pump Variations
Hello Everyone,
I needed to put in a new fuel pump, so since I don't ever want to pay someone to drop the tank again, I did it myself. I installed and access panel in floorboard. Now I ran into a bit of a problem with the pump itself. I have installed a Carter with these numbers on it, 71-188S, 4773946, 1418A. the Pump has two lines, Send, and Return. My New Bosch has only the Send, I go to Rockauto dot com and every pump I see there has one line out. Any input on this? I have true fuel injection, thats 8 injectors, not throttle body injection. It's a 1994 Dodge B150 Ram Wagon with a 5.2.
Thanks in Advance
Rick

Ok when I looked up fuel pumps for 1993, RockAuto shows versions with and without a return line. When I check fuel pumps for later years, I only find one version. It appears to me that a design change probably occurred in late 1993 so that may also affect some vans made in early 1994.
You are right on, I found the same thing on rockatuo right after I posted, then used the Bosch P/N in a google search and found it through Amazon for 136.00 I'll post pics when I am done showing the access door I made.
Thanks

Sometimes you have to match replacement parts with the part that was actually removed from the vehicle. Not only with 93-94 with the body style change but also with 97-98 with that change. Example: my 98's rear wheel cylinders show hydraulic lines that go straight into the rear of the cylinder body on the Autozone & Advance Auto reference, but the actual cylinders installed at the factory were the 99 style with canted entry threads.
I've personally had no problems with RockAuto, but in my experience sometimes the parts store information is just plain wrong.
When I replaced the rear wheel bearings on my 1972 T-Bird (in 1982) I bought new bearings from a major auto parts chain. Once I had the axles out it was obvious that the new bearings I bought for it would never fit. After removing one of mine I took it back to the parts store and the counter guy and I played "which bearing looks most like this one" going through stacks of boxed bearings for 45 minutes til we found the right one. His parts catalogue listed the correct bearing as fitting only a 1962 - 1963 Thunderbird.
Ok, I suppose a previous owner may have swapped out the rear end or the axles on that car but given that my Ford's metal ID tag was still bolted to my rear end I seriously doubt it
