Default How many of you have replaced your timing chain

Hi all...

I am starting to think that the 'lifter' noise I am hearing (and the noise the tech cant figure out) is the timing chain...

Anyone have experience with this issue???

Thnaks~

Nope - no problem with timing chain noise, but if you'll go to Harbor Freight, or an auto parts store, and pick up one of those auto stethoscopes (7-8 bucks), you will be more able to find out where the noise is coming from.

The timing chain symptoms for a Magnum engine are a rattling noise coming from the timing chain case. As sparkzz suggested a stethoscope or a long screwdriver can be used to help track down the location.

When the timing chain gets loose enough to make noise it is almost always causes a poor idle condition. Check to see if the engine seems to be running unevenly at idle.

Noise that seems to be coming from the timing chain can also be a malfunctioning serpentine belt tensioner.

Yea - after all I have done, this van should run smooth. It has a wierd vibration at idle. Also it is really hard to pinpoint where the noise if coming from. It sounds like it is everywhere. I have had the heads checked and they are OK. I am going to change the lifter and rockers just for the hell of it, but I am really leaning towords the timing chain. I hear it loud on the front cover, but also in the rear. The lifters sound like they are ticking, but not real loud.

I think I am just going to replace it all...

I did find this -
