Leave at least 2 inches by the tee joint and same on the dash side where the line goes through the fire wall. Take a piece of the line to the local auto parts store and they can match up one to slide over the nylon tube. You could also use a little RTV sealant carefully (just don't get it in the plastic line) over the nylon line and then slide the rubber hose over it. Let it cure overnight and you should have air coming out of the vents like you want.
