Add-on mirrors?
Hey all,
Quick question before asking the primary question. The guys at my local shop said the ignition coil could be the cause of my cyl. 5 misfire. I don't understand how that could be but is it possible?
Main question: On my 00' 3500 I have the little plastic plug above the lock switch on the drivers side. When I had the door panels off before it seemed like there were wires inside for mirrors. If I got the little switch for positioning and the left and right mirrors would I be able to wire up the power mirrors with the factory wiring? It sounds like a dumb question. Has anybody done this before?
Thanks,
Bill

First question --- well, maybe. More likely a plug wire, or plug itself. I know you were thinking a valve earlier and I think that may be the better thinking. You may also have a lazy lifter or your PCM is on its way out. I have been though this and in hindsight, I think my clogged cat, along with a weak PCM fried my valves.
On the second question, I am not really sure but sometimes you can do that. But, you really need a wiring diagram and see if you need any relays. One time I tried this with another car and the power lead was, i believe, intentionally deleted from the main wiring harness so I couldnt add, at the time, a power antenna to my Lumina. Maybe someone knows better about your potential rewire.
I think I hijacked my own thread haha.
I'm gonna guess by now it's an internal problem. My PCM was recently reflashed/reprogrammed although I'm not sure if that's as good as a reman one. Plugs, wires, cap, and rotor were the first things I did after the CEL came on. I think I'm going to get the reman heads alloro suggested on the other thread and have my local shop install them. I don't trust myself to do it.
There was one other thing I should have asked and maybe I should have posted in the general questions thread I started earlier but, is there supposed to be a little light down by the pedals that comes on with the dome lights?

It really isnt as easy as that if you want to be 100% sure it is going to work.
I would personally go to U-pull-it and get the switches and try it. If it doesn't work out then your not out 100 bucks. Like I said earlier, you will need to look in the fuse box to make sure you have the fuse, then in the relay center to make sure you have the relay and then check the wiring with a test light to see if you are getting power to the right places.
That is how you do it bro --- If I was there Id help ya

Ok the fuse is for sure a go. It's lumped together with the instrument cluster and lights and such and is listed in the manual. The relay is a different story. The relay box under the hood doesn't list a relay for power mirrors on the diagram on the removeable top. Do you have power mirrors? If so, would you be willing to tell me which relay controls the power mirrors? I have two or three open spots in the relay center so maybe it's one of those. And the cost of the parts would be under $100. I'm getting a bunch of parts off eBay and the switch is only like 20 bucks.
