Scanguage Codes
Hello,
I am new to the forum. I recently purchased a 1999 3500 camper van with the 5.9 litre engine. It had 72,000 miles on it, and on our first trip we had to replace the transmission. In order to keep track of how the new transmission is doing, I would like to purchase a Scanguage and program it so I can read the temperature of the transmission fluid. However I don't know the codes I need to do the programming. I contacgted Scanguage, and they told me "Unfortunately, we do not have transmission temperature for your vehicle. ISO (the protocol your vehicle runs in) is a difficult protocol to work with, which is why we do not have codes for Dodges that run in ISO. I would suggest looking on forums to see if other customers have been able to create their own codes for transmission temperature."
So I'm asking members of this forum has anyone been able to program a scanguage with the 5.9 litre engine so that you can see the temperature of the transmission fluid. If so, what codes worked for you?

First you would need to be able to tell if the transmission has a thermal sensor, which I do not believe that it does. With out the sensor the PCM/TCM do not have a way to tell what the fluid tempature is.
There has been some debate as where the best reading for the temp prob is. Some have it in the pan while others have one installed on the cooler line with the flow going to the radiator.

Been running the ScanGage-II on my van since last Christmas. The only temp to list is the water-temp.
Question. Does your van have the tranny-cooler? Starting in 2000, the Ram Van tranny-cooler became standard equipment along with the oil cooler. This relives much of the temp issues with the tranny.

I called my local Dodge dealer and asked if my 1999 van had a temp. sensor in the transmission. The service manager said it did not. But as DoubleWasp mentioned, my van does have an idiot light that comes on when the transmission gets overheated. So where does the information for that light come from if there isn't a sensor in the transmission. And yes, my van does have a seperate cooler for the transmission.
