Question Engine start then stops

Hi guys, Im new to the forum so I'll start out by saying Hi all.

I have a 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 with a 3.9L

The alternator casing cracked and seized up the pully.

I replaced the alternator and now I start the engine, it turns over, and shuts down in like 2 seconds.

I charged the battery to full so it getting juice.

The only difference in the alternator was it had a smaller pully then the old one but I dont think that would matter.

Any assistance would be apprecitated.

Yes both wires are hooked up. The plug and the one that is held by a nut.

I have an update, the car will run if I keep the RPM's up.

First is the a Pickup or Van?

If its a van you might have loosened the wires to the PCM by opps. Try to push in and wiggle them at the PCM (all of the connections there). I had this issue after changing a belt, didn't think I had bumped them loose, but it doesn't take much if you move the harness or bump them with your head while putting the belt back on

As in just above idle or do you really have to rev it to keep it running.

Well I forgot to mention that the Van hadn't been started for about a year.

I ran it by pressing the gas just above idle and after the temp got up to level it ran fine after that.

Finiky I guess LoL.

Thank for your suggestions anyway, your a great bunch

Did you put STA-BULZ fuel preserve in the tank when you stored it?It might have jelled the fuel filter preventing full flow. It's probably do for a filter anyway check it out................

old gas and water accumulated in the tank because the gas tank was not full before going into storgae will cause these symptoms... gas floats and water sinks so you are burning some amount of H2O along with old gas. If it starts and runs, but requires you to reve the engine to keep it running, then mix in gasoline fuel additive to help absorp the moisture (Heet is one brand), you will need two bottles, then fill the tank with new gas and let it sit overnight. It might take some revving to get the old gas out of the line, but should smooth out after a minute.

also if it sat for awhile the IAC might had stuck in place til the motor warmed up and dislodged it. When its cold again if it starts and idles just fine that might had been what happened. I would suggest if you are going to let it sit for any period of time (more then 4 weeks) that you put in some stabilizer due to the Ethanol in the gas. Water is not the only thing that affects gas today.
