Default Engine cutting out

I've got a 99 Dodge Ram 1500 van with a 5.2 engine, automatic. Lately the engine has been cutting out on me. Usually it only cuts out for less than a second but twice the engine has died on me. The engine check light has never come on and if checked to see if there's any codes in the system but there's none. The engine is a remanufactured high durability long block with only 5k on it. The van itself only has about 85k. Transmission was serviced shortly after I bought it (~80k) and the place said it was in great shape.

Any idea what could be causing this would be a great help. With no engine code I don't know where to start.

TIA,
Michael Wagner

There are many things that can cause the cutting out, but the coil has been know to do this as it ages.

Well a coil isn't that expensive all things considered. I can give it a try. Is it possible for the coil to act up and not cause the engine check light to come on?

Yes because it's the high voltage side that acts up and that side is not monitored by the PCM.

Understood, replaced the coil yesterday evening so as soon as I can get out on the road I should know.

Mine's doing the same thing. It runs good most of the time except for when it doesn't, then it spits & sputters & eventually gets me home.

I put the new coil in and have been driving it for about a week and it has improved quite a bit but I still get the occasional hick-up. Any idea what else could be going on?

Probably a connection that needs to be tightened or cleaned somewhere. Finding it is the challenge!
