Default 1990 Dodge Ram Van 5.2L Gas Gauge

I have a 1990 Dodge Ram Van 5.2L with low mileage. Runs very well with no oil loss between oil change at 3500 miles.

Yesterday when I started the vehicle the ABS and Anti-Lock Lights came on. Also at the same exact time the gas gauge stopped registering. All other gauges normal. Now, I doubt these two instances have anything to do with each other unless a inline fuse or voltage are shared. I constantly look at my gauges so I know the gas gauge quit working at the exact time as the ABS Lights came on. I disconnected the vehicle battery for a while then reconnected for computer reset. Same problem. Checked all on-board fuses in glove compartment.

Does anyone know where the fuse is for the gas tank indicator and if it is an inline fuse. Is the wire for the gas indicator on the top of the gas tank, so you literally have to drop the tank to measure. If I remember correctly, the gas tank level indicator works by an adjustable rheostat resistor which is on a sliding scale on the float inside the tank.

I doubt the rheostat on the float is bad as the gas indicator went out exactly at the same time the ABS light came on. I don't have a book that shows where the inline wire fuses are in the Van.

Check to see that the e-brake is fully released.

Can you tell me the logic behind the emergency brake being fully released and the gas gauge reading. Do they share a common 12v connector. I made sure the emergency brake was released and still no fuel gauge reading. There are a ton of connectors and wires underneath the dash right above the emergency brake. does anybody know where or what color the wire is that goes to the gas gauge and where it is located?

I tried to remove the plastic panel to get behind the instrument panel and am positive I have all the scews out, but the panel refuses to come off. The small panel will lift up from the rear about an inch or so, but will not slide up from the front. there must be spring clips somewhere?

There isn't one. I was only responding the ABS portion of your question that I quoted. I did not include the gas gauge issue in what I quoted because I think its a separate issue and did not want to confuse the two. I asked about the e-brake because if it is engaged at all the ABS is automatically disabled. Sometimes people bump the e-brake pedal without realizing it, so when there's an ABS issue, that's usually my first question.

OK, I fully understand now. There was no problem there
