Default New coil: AGAIN

FYI
I just had to replace the NAPA/Echlin IC41 ignition coil in my 94 b250(318) again in less than 10,000 mi.

I think I'm going to replace the screws with studs and just use butterfly nuts.

Use velcro. It'll make swapping out the coil a faster job!

Whenever I replace an electrical part anywhere, for any reason, a second time, prematurely, I always start looking for a secondary cause of that failure... something that is making that part fail. Electrical parts usually fail for a reason... you just have to find that reason. Heat is certainly an enemy of all electrical parts.

Sparkzz, when was your last tune up? Large spark gap either at the plugs and/or cap and rotor, and/or the coil to cap wire having super high impedence will over work the coil and cause early failure as well.

I'm thinking along the same lines. The coil was changed at the last tune-up, as was the plugs, cap and rotor, but they didn't replace the wire set. I'll pull a couple of plugs to check the gap, and just ordered a copper core wire set - I don't know what's in there now. It's highly possible the wires are not copper and have developed a high resistance putting a higher load on the coil.
Thanks

Also did they use the brass cap and not the aluminum one?

Copper core wires are not radio interference suppressing.

I tried them once and didn't notice any issues, nor benefit, and they lasted about 1.5 years before starting to leak to ground.

These vans cook SP wires. The dog house concentrates radiated and convected heat on them.

I've had the best result with Taylor's 35$ set. Going on 6 years now without a misfire.

Make sure they cannot rub on each other or on something grounded when doghouse is returned
