Default Key FOB programming 1996 Ram Van B2500

I have the instructions, and 2 new (to me) FOBs. I located what I thought was the programming wire under the dash taped to the harness on the left side of the steering column. Couldn't get any action out of the controller module.

Before I start thinking about pulling the module and looking for a replacement, I'd like to make sure I am using the right wire for grounding.
It is black or REALLY dark green, with a white trace, and a square white connector insulator at the end. Could you post a picture of what you used to program? In later years, you could just short pin 1 and 4 of the OBDII connector, but I don't believe that's an option for 1996 model year.

The real clue was on one of the just answer sites. "Locate the dark green programming wire on the left harness by the steering column" isn't enough information. This wire is taped to the harness UNDER the carpeting by about 6 inches. It has a round female connector with a black rubber boot. It even has a tag on it. I wouldn't even call it dark green. I'd call it green.

Connect the wire to ground, get in and close the door. put the key in the ignition, and turn to on. Door locks will cycle twice. press any key on the first transmitter, and locks will cycle. Press any key on second transmitter (if you have one) and the locks will cycle. turn off the ignition, PULL THE KEY OUT, and open the door, and disconnect the grounded wire. Use your transmitter.
Mystery solved. Fobs programmed.
