Those aren't plain wires, those are fusible links. I hope your mechanic realized that and installed new fusible links and not just wire.

Not sure what he did. It cut off on me again today and wouldn't start. Luckily I had just gotten off the highway. Anyway, got it towed back to him and he's looking at it now.

not sure this is your answer, but i'll tell you my story anyhow.

i was in a similar situation, replaced an alternator for no reason, went back had the old one tested and it was good.

turned out that my van, 1990 b150, does not have a voltage regulator on the alt, or an external voltage regulator. it regulates voltage through the computer, which looks like a sega genesis mounted front and center above the engine on the firewall.

i installed an adjustable voltage regulator, basically wiring it in between the alternator and the computer. i had to run a ground from the alt direct to the battery to get it running smoothly, but now it runs like a top.

these guys sell a kit, and are very helpful if you call them: http://alternatorparts.com/external-...nator-kit.html

i rigged it up myself, but wish i had ordered the kit because it includes a "FRM" that tricks the check engine light into turning off.

fyi, before i figured this out, i replaced the alt and the scoured the vehicle for burnt wires/fusible links, specifically in the area you're referring to.

"Since 1987 for Dodge and Chrysler and 1991 for Jeep, vehicles have external regulator alternators that are controlled by the Alternator Voltage Control Module inside the Engine Control Unit, ECU (computer) . This is often called the ECC, ECM, EEC, or PCM." - http://alternatorparts.com/external-...nator-kit.html

Try pushing on/ wiggling the 14 wire connector at the engine computer next time it stalls.

Especially if the Check engine light does not illuminate when it does stall.

Got it back from 3rd mechanics 3rd fix attempt tonight. So far, test drive seems to confirm a fix.
Solution: Fusible link in place of 20 amp fused jumper wire. That's it! It works.

Ok, why does fusible link work and not a fused wire?

Problem is sort of back. Runs rough. Stalls going up hills and won't restart if still on the hill. I had to be towed from the highway today, was going up a steep hill. Fortunately here in California there is a free tow service if you brake down on the highway. I got towed to a street that was level and it started up right away and made it home from there.
Is this typical of a fuel pump, fuel filter, or fuel injector failure? Or something else?
