Computer Codes - Trouble with Key Dance
Sparkzz, do you have to do anything special to get your's to work... Parking brake on, neutral, something else ???
I figured a post like this would inevitably pop up. That's for OBDII vehicles so won't do me any good.

Most O'Reilly locations use a scantool that works with OBD1 on domestics. I was just working at one, and our tool would read ABS, OBD1, OBD2, and included the attachments for use on Toyota/Lexus as well.
Tried others methods like ON OFF. ON OFF, ON.... waited several seconds. YET.....Only this next method worked for me. 1. Hold down odometer button while placing ignition key to on (not start). 2. result was squiggling green line moving on odometer gauge. Did this procedure on 3 separate occasions. No other flashed of any sort followed....No 55 flash ( indicating ""all is complete"" or ""all is well"") code showed itself....I assume all is well, for now.:
SEPARATE ISSUE; Prior to all this i disconnected both battery cables....then held them together for several seconds...reinstalled them. Result...this got rid of 'check engine' light showing for a year. I will drive vehicle at a latter time to see if 'check engine' light' comes back.

That's the procedure for testing the instrument cluster, not for reading engine codes.
