Shut down on me again today, on level ground. Worked on it for 3 hours in a parking lot that I managed to coast into. Funny thing, the parking lot was a AAA office.
Anyway, Backflushed fuel filter with carb cleaner until it was clear. Fuel pump hums along nice when it's running, Replaced fuel injectors. Tested for spark from coil, it sparks good.
After it shuts down, no fuel is getting to the injectors. After a while with key on injectors start to gush and it will start and run for a few minutes, then it shuts down.
Not sure if this is a symptom of failing fuel pump...cuz I don't know. Unless it's failing and drawing too much current causing the ASD relay to trip.

Had it towed to the last mechanic that worked on it. This is his 4th attempt at a good fix.
I'm out of answers and hope.

Is there a way to put an inline fuel pump in and disable/disconnect the one in the tank?

I read on here where someone just cut a hole in their floor to access the fuel pump. You might do a search on that.

I saw a similar video/post for cutting an access port to gain access to fuel pump. Sounds do-able but inline fuel pump seems easier, maybe.

Video on my youtube channel of the engine running, fuel injectors and fuel pump sound.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihDZ...ature=youtu.be

I drove it two miles and then let it run for an hour at home. Everything seems great while it's running but several shut downs a few days ago leads me to have no confidence in driving this thing any distance from home that I couldn't walk back from.

Any Ideas?

You said it happens on hills, and the van is an old, 1988, so the problem is the catalytic converter.

The baffles inside the catalytic converter have disintegrated and every time you drive uphill, the material slides towards the exhaust, blocking up the works.

Once you're on level ground, the exhaust is clear and all is well.

I had the same problem with my 1992 B350 and for under $150, I got the cheapest catalytic converter installed and the problem was resoved.
