Here's the story: A few days ago I was driving home from work and heard my belt sqealing. I then noticed my temp temp gauge was all the way hot. I quickly pulled over and realized that the water pump was shot. I had the van towed and got the pump replaced. I get the truck back and it started many times and ran fine for a day. Then all of a sudden while at a stop light, the truck stalls out and refuses to start again. The van turns over, but just will not start.

I've thrown some parts at the problem without being able to do any real diagnosis. The battery is fully charged and I've replaced the ignition coil and crank position sensor with no luck. The plugs and plug wires are only a few months old and the distributor cap was recently cleaned. I switched around the Asd and fuel pump relays in an attemp to get the van to start, again with no luck. I'm about to have the van towed again but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas first.

 

Did you try shooting a blast of starting fluid into the intake to see if it'll pop for you?

 

I haven't done that yet. Is a bad fuel pump the last thing that can be causing the starting problems based on what Ive tried so far? Any chance the temp rise from the water pump failure fried something?

 

Getting spark?

 

Hardly...there could be valve train issues, a jumped timing chain, a snapped crankshaft, a blown out cylinder wall, corroded wiring, etc...

 

I was told there was a fried ignition wire. The wire was replaced and it started right up again. Anyway, I don't feel so bad about replacing the crank position sensor and the ignition coil, at least I don't have to worry about those two parts and they were very old and could have gone bad at any time anyway.
