Your going to need more than mounts like a big block tranny different drive shaft likely a rear end, radiator, exhaust system including manifolds, ignition system and a lots of other parts. Do not forget your front suspension is set up for a small block the additional weight of a 440 has to be factored in so you must upgrade your springs, shocks etc....

Quite a bit of work and $ in your future IMHO you should consider a Magnum 5.2 or 5.9. Folks have standard body's( like the size of 12 pass) running 14 and 13sec quarter mile with modified small blocks. I like speed too but not in a van this is just my opinion anyway best of luck with your project.

Gonna have to agree with iodj44 on this. Unless you plan on doing a lot of towing and only wish to do this swap to gain torque - not speed or throttle response - I think you will be much happier installing a late model Magnum 5.2L or 5.9L.

It'll be a far easier swap and not only will your van be quicker off the line and but also get much better milage if you also install a matching 4 speed (overdrive) transmission. I have a 5.2L Magnum with just a few minor mods in my short wheel base 2000 and believe me, I routinely embarrass 99% of local street punks driving cameros mustangs ricers, etc. Well, from stop light to stop light at least

Ive been thinking about a non-ecu and/or aftermarket ECU FI 360 with an a833 tranny.

I don't see why it couldn't be done

Oh it can be done..
First you'll have to replace all four springs, differential and rear brakes, and driveshaft. Then your entire dashboard and all electronics will have to be replaced. A custom instrument panel complete with every gauge will have to be fabricated and wired from scratch (or possibly modified from a pre 1979 vehicle) since everything electrical is tied into the body control module and/or the pcm including RWAL, airbags, factory alarm, etc.

Modifying an pre OBD-II vehicle may be slightly more realistic but on '96 and up models like ours it would take months of custom fabrication in return for very little gain. If you really want an OBD free vehicle that gets 8mpg it seems to me it'd be a lot cheaper and easier to just buy one.

A Magnum 5.2 or 5.9 would be a fine choice, thevikingrules could run a dual or single plane intake with a 650/750 cfm carb and electronic ignition driving a 904 or 727 and be very happy. The 440 choice I my opinion would be so costly he would be better off just purchasing a complete van that has an enough power under the hood.

If he really wants a fast and cool van and the money to build it along with the lousy mileage it will deliver are not a concern a 440 works.

You should be able to find new stock mounts for late seventies motorhomes with 440s that used dodge chassis. (Van front ends) .

(2/20)
A website engine-swap.com has mounts and Mopar k frames for cars and trucks so they likely can help you with your van. Was thinking a 85 2wd pickup B/RB conversion kit should work but these folks will know.

Imagine these folk have lot of information so maybe you could pick there brains a bit. Best of of luck my friend don't leave us hanging and keep us up to date we are curious.

I can appreciate that.

Probably should left it in the RR as it'd be worth 20x more. I can pick up a nice running stock 440 + 727 torquflite witha 30 day warranty out of Dodge motor home for $400- $450. THe cost of conversion will run you over $1500 assuming you have your own arc welder and 90% of all the parts you'd need already. Just saying theres better use of materals: if you wanna get rid out of a genuine RR motor + trans for $350 - $400 I can easily line one up in under 24 hours.

BTW No way an 8 3/4 diff will hold up behind a stock 440, much less a built one. I 've cooked a prefectly sound chrysler corp 9.25 limited slip in less than 20minutes so I should know.
