Chime drives me crazy
I'm not certain how it can be disconnected but personally I don't mind that chime so much since I have a habit of forgetting the keys in the ignition, or shutting off the headlights lights, or running low on fuel on occasion. I do recall having an 88 ram pickup that I did pull a relay but that doesn't seem to be the case for our vans. There is a 10a fuse side of the dash in my 99 van for the chime but pulling it has no effect to silence the chime so I'd be interested to know for general purpose too if anyone knows...
You can't, the chime is built into a multi-function device. What is your reason for wanting to disconnect it? Perhaps there is another solution we can help you figure out.
It's just an irritating sound.
I have read posts that indicate that cutting one specific wire (in both cases a blue one), will silence the chime. But their specifics don't match my 2002 model.
My mechanic said he thought that there might be a plug-in relay of sorts to pull out, but I am beginning to think that it built in as someone has suggested.

That sounds like a possibility, however, I have no idea what it looks like. And, I have tried to locate the origin of the noise and cannot pin it down.
Look at this: http://www.motormayhem.net/2011/11/1...er-disconnect/
That's kind of what I expect to do. By the way, is my 2002 van considered to be 3rd generation?

The chime is ON the cluster circuit board. I remember it being a little round black thing the size of a nickel...maybe a dime.
PIN 5 - Light Blue - 20 gauge wire in the ignition switch. That is the Key-In sense wire.
I think older models, the chime was in one of the relay/flasher sockets.

On my 2000 I simply disconnected a small 2 conductor connector from the power door latch. Presto, no more dome light and no more "key in ignition" chime. If you attempt this please pull the wire connector out of the door and wire tie or tape to itself or its harness so it doesn't rattle and/or get caught up in the window.
