Default Transmission shifting

Hello;

I have a 1999 1500 conversion van with a 360. Trans has OD. My problem is that when I take off and give it any amount of throttle the trans won't shift out of 1st till about 40mph and then it doesn't do it smoothly. Once at highway speeds all seems well. Vechicle has 163K. I figure I will need a new/rebuilt trans. Thought it might be the solinoid. If I need a new trans should I look for something other than what is in it or any recommended tweeks. Thanks

How many miles since the fluid/filter was changed and the bands adjusted?

The name of the shop is irrelevant, it's the quality of the people that work there which make it a good or bad place to go to. But for something like this, any mom and pop transmission shop in your town should be able to handle it just fine.

Trans fluid was changed, new filter, around end of May, 2015.Probably 8000 miles on it now. Had athe same problem then but seems to be worse.TYrans will shift if I give it very light throttle, but can't do that if traffic. Then it won't shift till around 40, and still have to play with throttle to get it to shift The old fluid was pretty clean to the PO may have changed it shortly before i got it. Doesn't seem like bands slipping, just not shifting right

Hello;

Transmission died yesterday. only 1st gear (maybe 2nd). wouldn't shift out to a higher gear. Lost reverse. Oil black and burned smell.

I haven't been able to get it up on a lift yet. Looking at different threads I think it is a 46re. Van is 1999 ram 1500 conversion, 360 V8 with overdrive.

I am not a mechanic so here is what I would like to know. Looks like the OD unit is a separate unit from the trans. Never had trouble with it, goes in and out easily when I use the switch on the shift lever.

Wondering, will the OD unit fit on any 46re trans. What years would be compatible with a 1999 vehicle. I see that Dodge also used a 32 RH trans. Is this a heavier duty trans? Would this be a better choice. I may be doing some towing, not much but still towing. would it use the same OD unit?

Bad time of year to happen, budget is real low. I was thinking of looking for a reasonable (?) milage used one. I don't like buying used parts if I can help it as it's hard to tell how good it might be ( by me that is). I have found one so far, 100K for $450.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you plan on taking your trans apart find what burn the fluid and contaminated it. Shouldn't be hard to find. It may just need new bands. The 32 rh is a hydraulic trans yours is electronic. That's what the RH stands for, RE is electronic. The 32 is for the V6 so keep the 46re.
