Dodge Ram 2500 Van not B2500
The place which sold you the "incorrect" cat will they swap you for the correct one if it exists? Or can you plead your case to the emission compliance, board, department or what ever they call themselves.
I am still trying to wrap my head around the van easily passed the emissions test so your not polluting the wonderful state of California. What is the states end game? As you said maybe they just want excuses to get older cars of the road.

Mine is correct for a 1996 Dodge B2500. but according to BAR's database, it is not correct due to it not being a 1996 Dodge B2500, it is a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 Van....
And to get the correct one, I would have to swap out the unit I got, with a new one, to the tune of at least $300 for the part..

So... I think the smog place might have accidentally goofed up the numbers!!!!!
on the work order, it says D-665-81
but my EO is D-665-18!!!!!
working with BAR right now. they are going to call me back tomorrow

So I talked to a friend of mine that is a smog tech, and he said those guys must have looked up my vehicle wrong, or looked up the Ram 2500.... Not realizing the Ram 2500 is a truck, and not a van, which is the B2500..... GRRRRRRR have an appointment with my friend on Monday......
Congrats for finding proper inspector.
Hmm, I always thought Mass had Cali spec emissions but haven't ever seen any of that crazyness, but our machines also use the VIN not manual entry. Though I want to say the cutoff is 18 years for emissions in mass anyway, I should probably know that by heart seeing as how I have my inspection license lol.

yeah the cutoff is 1975
Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles 1997 year model and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, motorcycles, trailers, or gasoline powered vehicles 1975 and older.
