I have an AC in my 98 long van and it also has a unit for cooling the back. I don't use it and it doesn't work anyway, and I don't really need it. The unit in back is in the way and all the plumbing around the engine gets in the way of maintenance - I am always cussing about this hose or that compressor. So I'm thinking of removal just to simplify things.

I read about getting a shorter belt, and I know I need to find a shop to clear the freon out. Any other pointers or suggestions?

BTW I have yet to do that plenum mod so I may deal with both at the same time. I'm guessing I have to remove the compressor in any case to get to the plenum.
