Default how to reset rpm dodge van 5.2

Hello everyone:

I have a 2001 Dodge van, 5.2 and 70,000 miles.

It's running nearly perfect, but Rpm seems running little too high, 1000- 1100 at park.

I am driving mostly local, and it gives me a poor mpg. I get about 10 to 11 mpg in city and 13-14 miles on Hwy.

I wanted to know if I can lower rpm by manually, so I might be able to get a better mpg in local driving.

I asked one of the mechanic, he said it is automatic, therefore it cannot be adjusted.

anyone has an idea?

Thank you in advance.

Ken

Sometimes the idle air control (IAC) valve gets gummed up and sticks which causes improper idle. Start by taking that off and cleaning the plunger area on it and the hole the plunger came out of in the throttle body. It's on the back of the throttle body and held on by 2 torx screws.

idle speed has nothing to do with speed engine runs at while driving.

What does driving have to do with his high idle issue?
