Default 1997 B3500 Van : Driver Side Seat Belt Problem

Hi Smart Van Owners -

The seat belt was jammed. I took it out and am trying to figure out if I can fix it or maybe replacing it from an auto wrecker would be a good idea. It wouldn't retract and tension properly. There is this plastic clip that is loose that seems like it is the culprit but I don't see how it snaps back in somewhere. Really appreciate and help/advice.

Lawrence
Is it that gray plastic part that is flopping around that is the problem ?

Here is the full seat belt for context

You might try contacting SeatBeltPlanet.com with your inquiry.

Ugh! I had the same problem with my '97 B3500. I eventually had to purchase an OEM replacement off of eBay. It wasn't cheap. The part number I needed was 5fe15raz.

I found an '02 seatbelt in a wrecking yard that worked for a while but the wiring to the airbag is different. Is your 'check engine' light on?

Your belt's part number should be imprinted somewhere visible on the retractor's cage or framework. Mine is. And for only $50 plus S&H SeatBeltPlanet.com repaired mine. I'd look into discussing your problem with them because the repair may be well cheaper than a replacement.

Fwiw I have absolutely no financial interest in SBP but mention them as a good company to work with.
