Default 2003 Dodge B250 no spark, no start but cranks

I was driving, and and suddenly lost power and heard a huge bang like a gunshot figure it backfired? Any way at first thought was an engine problem but the tow truck guy who is a mechanic at a shop out here took a look with me and the engine appears to be cranking fine we checked the centre distributor cap wire and seen there was no spark when we opened the cap and cranked it we saw that the rotor was spinning he didn't have time to do much more than that I'm sure cause he wanted me to bring it to the shop .... where should I start looking or advice?
