Default I installed a new starter on 97 B2500 van

I started it twice that night just checking. Next morning I turn key & get one click. Fiddled with battery cables. Got one click & loud pop from alternator side of engine. All electrical was dead. No dome lights etc. Dirty words. I walk away for an hour. I once again have electrical!! Try to start. Click. Electrical gone again. New battery installed. Starts & runs several stop & go. 18 hrs later tried to start Click & dead electrical system again. Disconnect battery & put charger on it. Green light. Battery ok. Went back to new starter. All problems started when it was installed. In taking it off little nut on little wire would not come off. It came out of the bendix as I tried.
Installed another new starter. Checked wires from battery to starter. All ok. All fuses good. Starter relays new @2000 miles ago. What could bad starter have caused to short out, that is tied to a circuit breaker. No idea what caused loud pop. Alternator was working according to gauge after loud pop. I drove it @ 100 miles. All systems working ok. 28 hrs later dead again. I’m tired of my head hitting the brick wall.

The new starter could be defective.

You have a bad connection somewhere. I would start at the battery terminals, and go from there.
