Default Uh Oh- Tranny Clicks

The "Uh Oh" is because I'm on a road trip 2,500 miles fr. home and I ain't rich.
2001 DRV 3500 5.9L. Fluid level and color is good and performance OK. I parked right next to a wall otherwise I wouldn't have heard clicking that sounds like when a house fan has a blade that taps a part of the frame each revolution. When stationary- foot on break- the clicking is gone in park and neutral otherwise clicks at same speed in all other gears. Don't know when it started but a couple days ago I came out started it up and took off only to find it was in second gear. Don't know if I drove it that way for a bit before I had parked it or just bumped the shifter when I got in. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Im not even gonna ask what a rebuilt tranny costs- not while I'm in Ca. anyway.
Thanks

Does it still drive ok? Does it click with engine speed, or road speed?

The van drives fine- no problems at all. Since I first listened to it it still only happens in all drive gears by not at all in P or N. I can hardly hear it when driving but next to a wall or something it seems to click the same speed regardless of vehicle speed. Also in gear but stopped because foot is on break the sound (maybe more rattle than click) is intermittent. I'm going to block the wheels while in drive and get underneath to pin down where this noise comes from.
Thanks

Have a second person help you. Blocking the wheels may not be adequate to the task, and it would be a bummer to be ran over by your own van....... (or, just jack up the rear end...... tires off the ground.)

just replying to thank you for the always good advice. A side point- I'm doing strut rod bushings tomorrow and feel well prepared part of which was review of a half hour video on YouTube for lower control arms. It includes strut bar stuff and I think it was posted by you.

Not that I am aware of.

Good luck on your repairs, let us know how it goes.
