1999 Ram Van 1500 Alternator over voltage
I'm kind of a novice in electrical troubleshooting on automobiles but i have been having this dilemma with my charging system.
At first i had variable fluctuation at the gadge and then the alternator went out on me. I purchased a new alternator from rock auto and noticed it was rather high (maybe 14 + volts at the gadge) well, that alternator died on me.
I replace the alternator once again and metered across the battery and read 18.4 volts. I concluded that it was the regulator at the ECM that was the failure. I replace the ECM (got this unit at flag ship 1).
Still reads 18.4 volt....**** !
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
Maybe someone has the pin out for the ECM so i can check continuity from alternator to ECM?

Use a meter to check for voltage between the engine block and the body of the vehicle. Anything over .5 volts and you have a bad block to body ground.
